An interview with Perring Design London
I believe what makes Perring Design unique is that we deliver both creativity and practically; striking the balance between the right look, allowing for meeting time and fulfilling budget requirements. We are flexible, whilst projects evolve and circumstances change we adapt to these issues due to our extensive experience in the industry. Above all, we know how important it is to ensure everything is managed well. When you work with Perring Design, you can be confident that all aspects of the project are closely monitored through to the final, finishing touches.
The studio was established in the 80’s identifying a new market for competitively-priced, commercially-driven interior design for property developers and investors. Our creative skills and passion for design, as well as property, coupled with a refreshingly practical approach to project management saw clients returning time and time again. As the client base grew, show apartments, private homes and refurbishments were added to the Perring Design portfolio.
Our investors often ask for ‘tenant proof’ furniture, meaning it needs to be well made, robust, easy to care for, easily replaceable and relatively simple in design to appeal to a wide range of prospective tenants. Similar considerations need to be taken when picking fabrics; for example, in rental properties we tend to go for easy care fabrics in darker shades to increase the longevity of the upholstery. We are also inclined to keep everything as neutral as possible and add a ‘pop’ of colour through the accessories and cushions. This is so these items can be easily removed by the tenant if they want to add their own personal touch. Our approach to show homes is similar in the principle that the aim is to appeal to the greatest amount of people. However, this is more about selling a lifestyle therefore there is less compromise on design compared to rental properties.
It really depends on the project but at the moment our preferred metal finish is polished brass. We really like the textured natural fibre fabrics that seem to be everywhere this season. Marble is always great to add a touch of luxury and if the budget is small, there are some beautiful marble accessories out there!
In the initial interior proposal, I’d say the more decorative items such as artwork, cushions and lamps are the most effective way for us to represent a client’s personality. However, at Perring Design we work so closely with our private clients throughout the whole process that the client has the opportunity to express their own personality at every stage.
Heathfield & Co. have such a large range of different lights, it is our go to when looking for a statement lamp to complement any interior. As the hand-blown glass lamps all vary slightly, it allows our clients to have something truly individual without completely blowing their budgets. We also like to support British companies, so the fact the lights are designed and manufactured in the UK is very important to us.

Decorex is definitely our key event in the calendar and this year we also had the opportunity to attended Maison et Object in Paris and loved the experience
