To preserve your Heathfield & Co lighting, we recommend regular and mindful maintenance. As our lighting is handcrafted using a range of materials and finishes, care requirements can vary from one product to another. We always suggest taking into account the specific materials used in your lighting before cleaning.
General Care
As a general approach, begin by turning off the power supply and allowing all components to fully cool. For guidance tailored to each material, please refer to the sections below:
Linen lampshades
Linen should be kept dry at all times. Dust regularly using a soft, dry cloth or a gentle vacuum with a brush attachment on a low setting. Avoid soaking, as this can cause marking or distortion of the fabric.
Rattan and wood
Dust frequently with a dry cloth or brush to prevent build-up. Wood finishes may benefit from a slightly damp (not wet) cloth, followed by drying immediately.
Stone
Stone materials are naturally porous and should be handled with care. Clean only with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid water, cleaning sprays or chemical products, as these can stain or mark the surface. Take extra care with marble - no bleach, lemon, or vinegar. We recommend pH-neutral cleaners and wiping dry immediately to prevent marks or dulling.
Glass
Use a soft, lint-free cloth. For more thorough cleaning, a small amount of mild, non-abrasive glass cleaner can be applied to the cloth (not directly onto the glass) before wiping. Ensure all components are fully dry before switching the lighting back on.
Light Bulbs
Gently dust the bulbs with a soft, dry cloth to ensure optimal brightness and clarity of light.
Lampshades
Carefully remove the lampshade from the base, taking care to handle it delicately to avoid creasing, denting or marking the material. Use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to lightly dust both the interior and exterior surfaces. We strongly advise against using any liquid-based cleaners on fabric shades, as this may cause watermarks or colour transfer.
Safety Checks
We recommend regular inspection of bulbs, electrical components and cables to ensure they remain in excellent working condition, and free from damage or wear.
Product Notes
Due to the handcrafted nature of our lighting, slight variations in tone, finish and detail are to be expected - each piece is uniquely its own.
