We caught up with Samantha to discover the design trends influencing her work, where she believes it’s worth investing in a project, the rooms she most enjoys designing and her advice for creating a successful lighting scheme.

Key trends shaping 2026/27 interiors?
The trend is very much with using the warm, earthy and calming colour palette with colour drenching playing a role in specific areas. Lots of organic shaped furniture with natural wood now providing depth and longevity.

Where to spend on a project?
It is essential that the fundamentals and bones of a project are carefully designed and thoroughly considered before any decorative decisions are made. The mechanical and electrical plans and placements are never the place to cut corners or trim budget; get these right at the outset and everything that follows is possible, compromise here and you'll be living with the consequences for years. With the services properly resolved, layout and the layering of lighting become paramount. A considered lighting scheme is what enhances the interior, creating atmosphere and ensuring the space is both aesthetically appealing and genuinely functional for the way it is lived in.

Where to save on a project?
You can save on a project through mixing high and low. Put your money into one or two hero pieces per room and let more affordable items sit around them. A quality sofa or statement light anchors a space, and the eye reads the whole room as considered even when the surrounding pieces are modest.

Favourite room to design, and why?
Of all the spaces I design, bedrooms are my favourite. They're the most personal rooms in any home – answering to the people who live there rather than to guests – which gives me the freedom to create something genuinely intimate. It's where atmosphere matters most: the layering of soft, warm light, natural materials and a calming palette to craft a space made purely for rest and restoration.

Top lighting tip or trick?
Build light in three layer being ambient, task (for reading, cooking, working), and accent (to highlight art, texture or architecture) – and split them across multiple sources at different heights: floor lamps, table lamps, wall lights and low-level lighting, not just the ceiling.
