QUICK FIRE QUESTIONS

Key trends shaping 2024/25 interiors?
We are seeing a lot of organic forms in interior design coming in through furnishings, lighting and joinery design. In addition, an expansion of new and different material finishes and a continuing preference toward open plan, expansive living areas which connect the inside with the outside and have defined family living areas within the footprints. In addition, as home and flexible working continues to rise in popularity, we are looking at a lot more home office, garden rooms, home gyms and home entertainment spaces within our project briefs.

Where to spend on a project?
We always advise to prioritise the key areas that are the hub of the family home- the spaces that you are going to use the most and get the benefit from. Main staircases and the entrance to your home is also a good place to invest in an inviting but luxury interior scheme that won’t date. We always encourage a splurge on the guest ground floor bathroom if possible as it is a small space which can have a big impact, bold design can be used as though it is not a space you will inhabit for long periods of time, it is a space that all your guests will see when they visit you.

Where to save on a project?
If budget constraints require some compromise, we advise to look at areas that can be pulled back in terms of bespoke and premium specifications such as children’s bedrooms. Especially for young children- these rooms can still look smart but as they need to grow with the occupant who will change their own personal style and tastes, it is an area that can be more simply designed as opposed to spending a lot of money on beautiful, fitted furniture for example. Areas that get high use but are not seen so much by visiting guests such as boot rooms can also be pulled back and designed to be aesthetically pleasing but durable and practical over high specification.

Favourite room to design, and why?
As above we love to design a dramatic downstairs powder room. It is an area that you can go high end on and use bold colour schemes to give a wow factor as it is not a space you have to sit in for a long time but it is a space that your guests will remember visiting after they have left your home. As they are usually quite small in footprint it also gives opportunity to use elevated, more luxury materials such as marble because it does not have to cover such a large area and as they do not usually have a shower or bath the material specification can be more luxe and less practical. It is a space that gets used often but for a shorter period of time.

Top lighting tip or trick?
Always install concealed LED lighting within bespoke joinery. It elevates the cabinetry, gives soft ambient lighting to the space and adds another layer to your interior, it is also cost effective. A simple addition such as concealed warm white LED tape light placed behind a headboard giving upplight can instantly elevate a bedroom.

Favourite Heathfield lamp?
We love the alabaster lamps- they look very high end but still classic enough to sit in various schemes. The Blanca table lamp is one of our favs, with a curved organic form, brass accents and natural alabaster stone it is a beautiful piece.
