Behind the Design: Orla
Characterised by its uniquely speckled finish and curved form, the Orla collection celebrates the intricate and innovative art of glass making.
The inspiration behind the design evolved through conversations around our signature volcanic frit finish seen throughout our glass collection - a material that defines Heathfield & Co. We played with exploratory finishes and reimagined these on beautifully simple white glass forms, paired with solid Brass and Bronze details with a fit and finish that elevates the design.
The Volcanic frit finish is an expressive creation that varies between each hand-blown form, ensuring every product is truly one of a kind. Metallic grains are protected in a cocoon formed by two layers of molten glass, an artisanal technique practiced by our talented glassmakers. As the metal reacts with the heat, the glass frames the volcanic frit on its surface – creating infinite variations of markings on each piece.
The close relationships we have with our community of glass artisans based throughout Europe is essential. We craft and refine every detail together, from initial inspiration to the final sample. Through a tireless experimentation process, we uncovered just the right white tones to cast a warm, delicate glow.
The collection includes vertical and horizontal pendants, table and floor lamps, and a number of IP44 rated wall lights that can also be used in bathrooms.
