The Principal York, (formerly The Royal York Hotel), opened to guests November 2016 following a restoration by Goddard Littlefair interior architects.
Originally opening as ‘The Station Hotel’, the venue has a rich history dating back to 1878. Key historic architectural features such as the cantilevered ironwork stairwell have been fully restored. The hotel also features further references to the history of the surrounding city, including antique-style cartography.
Richard Mansell, General Manager of The Principal York, says: “The launch of the Principal York is an exciting time for our team and the wider York community. We are proud to have preserved and maintained the beautiful architecture and design of the building and look forward to welcoming guests into a jewel in the city’s crown.”
The hotel features a range of bespoke lighting designs throughout including table, wall and floor lamps through guest rooms and suites, stunning ceiling pendants in the hotel’s Lobby Lounge and Garden Room, as well as additional pieces found in meeting rooms, bars and other interiors.
