What led you to initially establish your studio?
After receiving a BA in Interior Design in the USA, I worked in the industry for 7 years before moving to the UK. After six years gaining further experience, I realised that it was the right time for me to go on my own. I now have 20 years of experience in commercial and residential interior design.
I sometimes cannot believe that since doing my university degree and starting work in my profession, I have now been working for so many years in this amazing industry and I have had such a wonderful professional journey in two countries.
What is usually the first step in the creative process when you get a new brief or client?
We prepare concept images based on our initial client consultation and key questions that we ask our clients. It is vital to get their exact vision and understand what they are trying to achieve with their own words and visuals.
Clients often cannot easily describe their ideas, so images can speak volumes. Their lifestyle can give me many clues and ideas. I must admit you really have to be good at human psychology in these meetings. If you can read your client quickly, then the journey is smooth and always enjoyable. I am fascinated by listening to my clients’ aspirations, and creating collaborations that we all enjoy working on. You have to really listen and communicate well to create this successful working relationship.

How would you describe your overall style or approach to interiors?
I remember when studying my Interior design degree, we covered many different periods throughout history, and this really teaches you that there is not a set style, but instead each clients’ taste becomes your beacon to elevate the design to another level, that although never initially envisioned we make a reality,
I try to create timeless elegant looks with touches of unexpected, and eclectic collector pieces.
However, over the years we have designed an Art Deco style home in Miami, traditional country house concepts around Surrey and stylish summer homes in the Caribbean and Cyprus. It is all exciting and a challenge. I love it all.
What are currently some your preferred materials and fabrics to work with in your projects?
We are currently mixing metals such as bronze with joinery and cabinet making. I like these combinations as the textured, layered look in any design is always well thought through. I also love mixing leather or faux leather on furniture, this could be in the drawers or inside the drawers as lining. Details and more details!

You recently featured lighting designs from Heathfield & Co for your project ‘The Pines” What was it about these particular lighting designs that complemented these interiors so well?
When I was briefed by my client, I knew she wanted something very special. She knew what she wanted, and desired the wow factor. Heathfield delivered this. Medina bespoke size, which had nine arms, was carefully created for this project, and the client and I both adored the tassel touches. I do not think my photographer was able to do this piece in the grand hallway justice, as It really looks amazing along with Alette wall lights on the landing and Constance table lamps at the ground floor hall entrance. All these together complete the look.
I can describe Heathfield lighting with many words gorgeous, feminine, very tastefully creative, always stylish and perfectly proportioned. Your use of materials is second to none.
What are some of the key design events in your calendar you regularly attend?
Decorex, Maison & Objet, Milan Design week, Design Junction in London, 100% Design along with Focus events at Chelsea Design Centre. We try to go all these but sometimes work gets in the way.
What is your personal favourite Heathfield & Co products to date and why so?
Great Question…I have a couple!
I still love the Constance table lamp and the Medina chandelier; However, I have specified Zola and Alette Pendants before, and I adore them.
However, my absolute timeless favourite is the Lexington 32” pendant and I would like to specify this one soon.
